HIMM is a non-profit organization founded in year 2000 by the visionary founder and president High Chief Kennedy Okere, MD. HIMM's first medical mission to Nigeria was carried out in Dr Okere's home town - Ihiagwa in year 2000. After seeing the sad condition of my people I became more motivated to do more and more.

For five years in a row HIMM has provided free medical care to many rural communities in different parts of Imo State, Nigeria. The mission that started with me alone now has medical doctors, nurses, a dentist, evangelists and social workers who cut across different parts of the United States. HIMM does understand that short term missions are not the solution to the management of chronic illness such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, HIV/AIDS complex etc. Therefore, we decided to build hospital designed to serve the rural population in Ihiagwa and the surrounding towns of Owerri West Local Government in Imo state, Nigeria. This project has consumed substantial amounts of dollars.

Because of our contribution to rural health development in Owerri West, Imo State, on March 26th, 2005 the Council of Traditional Rulers of Owerri West Local Government Area which is made up of 16 Kings and a population of 1.2 million people, as approved by the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Governor Imo State of Nigeria - Chief (Dr.) Achike Udenwa, coroneted me as High Chief Akaji Ogwu I of Owerri West (the hand that upholds medicine) and my wife as Lolo (queen) Nwanyi ma Obidiya ( the woman that understands her husbands heart).

It is important to note that our mission success is dependent on HIMM's and its supporters' prayers. It is also due to the commitment and sacrifice made by all for the vision to do more and more to touch the world with medicine, bring smiles to the crying face and hope to the hopeless. If we will do this we shall be blessed

HIMM will continue to work with churches and Universities in USA and Nigeria in bringing hope to the hopeless in the rural areas of Africa and the Caribbean's. We are grateful to the people of America who support us financially and otherwise.
